Are you one of those freaks who folds a fitted sheet?
I can’t do it. I refuse to do it.
I wad that shit up and stuff it in the linen closet. Believe me, there are things (many) I’m VERY particular about but folding a sheet into a perfect square is not one of them.
Look, if you want to spend hours folding sheets, go for it. Are there other areas of your life though where you may have an all-or-nothing mentality?
When you hear the word Consistency, do you think it means you have to be perfect?
I had equated consistency with perfection for a long time.
No room for error. No wiggle room. I had to workout for 2 hours or why bother? There was no middle ground.
It was exhausting. It became impossible to keep up.
People give up way too soon when they are trying to be perfect.
I mean, who wouldn’t? It’s an impossible standard, yet we are always trying to hold ourselves to it.
So what does consistency really mean?
It means hitting your nutrition goals most of the time (~80%)
It means getting right back on track if you were human and indulged a bit at a party.
It means not giving up when the going gets tough no matter how discouraged you may feel.
It means stop beating yourself up or feeling guilty when you aren’t perfect.
It means, in the words of my client, “having a bite of [your] daughter’s cake and not giving it a second thought.”
It means being flexible when life gets life-y.
It means doing some things even and especially when you don’t want to.
It means NOT being perfect.
Consistency over time is what will win. Guaranteed. Every. Single. Time. So PLEASE, do not quit. I know it’s tough. But I promise you if you keep going, and realize this journey is for life, you will succeed. Also, if you have time to fold a fitted sheet (40-45 min?), you definitely have time to exercise 😉
